SOTD: Ow.

I went to a mall. A Neiman Marcus, L'Occitane, Bloomingdales, and Sephora-bearing mall.

All I really have to say is that wearing Shiseido Feminite du Bois and then sniffing, in rapid succession:
  • L'Occitane Eau D'Iparie
  • Tom Ford Tuscan Cypress
  • Dior Miss Dior Cherie
  • Dior Miss Dior Cherie L'Eau
  • Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Vert
  • Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Blanc
  • Bvlgari Jasmin Noir
  • Bvlgari Voile de Jasmin
  • and Guerlain Jicky
is not a good idea. Three caffeinated beverages later, and the headache is still popping up now and then to shout "GOTCHA!" Also, by the end, I couldn't really distinguish Jicky from my memory of Penhaligon's Extract Of Limes.

I believe that the lesson is to go unscented to the scent sampling zone. At least, that's what I usually do, and I usually come home headache-free.

I'd just like to conclude with: Ow.

(OK, one last note: While searching for that Coke picture, I found a picture of deep-fried Coke. I posted it on the other blog. Oh, my.)

    1. Uh... I dropped in for a look at the deep-fried Coke-- that's making MY head hurt, just thinking about it...

Sorry about the sniff binge. Don't know of any good hang-over recommendations for that...

    2. Had a mini-sniff-binge with my daughter yesterday, just surfing in my minis and samples. By the end of that everything was smelling the same, and she had a headache. I didn't, but maybe I'm a hardened fumeaholic and could sniff her under the table.

      Your poor head...

    3. Oh poor you! You are right, though, you MUST go fragrance-free on sniffathons. Also, remember to drink lots of water as I always find I get so dehydrated during those events. Remedy for now would be some strong, mint tea, and no more caffeine. Possibly a shower too :-)

    4. Yep, LCN, I think that a sniffing hangover just has to wait for my head to finish airing itself out. It's still occasionally twinging today, little "Now, we're not going that again anytime soon, are we?" warnings.

I'm freakishly fascinated by the deep-fried Coke. I can tell that I couldn't eat more than a bite or so, but... fascinated.

Yep, Mals, usually I have apparently infinite sniffing capacity, too! It's embarrassing to be knocked down by such a short list. It is better today. But I'm still eyeing the precious hoard of cane-sugar Cokes as a remedy for the last headache traces. But that would be Wrong.

lovethescents, yep, I think that was my error. I thought of going unscented as being about having plenty of skin to spray on, so I didn't realize that it was also a way to protect my head. Now I know.

    5. Fem du Bois I could find headache-inducing on its own I think - major issues with spicy plum and pencils.

That was also a motley bunch of stuff you tested. If I didn't have a headache before, Jicky would definitely have seen me off!

Get better soon - and yes, that fried Coke was deeply unnerving...

    6. flittersniffer, the multi-spicy combination of FdB, Eau D'Iparie, and Tuscan Cypress may be what killed me. There seemed to be something in common between all three, so maybe I got an overdose of the something.

By the time I got to Jicky, the main confusion was the total lack of skank or civet. I know that it's supposed to start out citrusy, but _that_ bright and fresh? I remember Jicky as being at least a little ominous right from the top.

(I forgot to add reformulated bright green No. 19 EDT and smells-reformulated Cristalle to the list. That was just depressing.)

    7. Bright green No. 19 edt is even more depressing than I had remembered. I wore it recently in a Death Match with AG Heure Exquise, and BOY, is it a skinny little catwalk-model of a scent these days... Sucks. I love the vintage edt.

    8. Somehow the reformulation of No. 19 seems like an extra wrong crime. :( I'm sure it's mostly because I love it, but.... OK, I had other reasons, but, well, maybe it is just because I love it. :)

I do remember reading that No. 19 (not sure which strength) was one of the most expensive perfumes, in terms of dollars spent on the ingredients versus volume of juice. I wonder if this reformulation reduces that. Hmph.
