SOTDays: Parfumerie Generale Tubereuse Couture and Heeley Cardinal

On Wednesday, I wore Tubereuse Couture. It was as lovely as ever, but gorgeous slightly dirty buttery flowers with a streak of green weren't what my brain wanted. I didn't know what it wanted until I got a whiff of smoke late in the day--I don't know if it was a snuffed candle, a match, or someone's perfume--and I developed a sudden inconsolable longing for incense. Not flowery or fruity or herbal or spicy or otherwise gussied-up incense, but just plain old incense. This is a brand new craving for me.

So today I wore Heeley Cardinal. Perfect. The opening was a fraction fruity--I have no idea what note was involved; the cistus?--but now it's plain, not-too-dry incense. The sample is almost empty and I'm thinking about a decant. Actually, that's a lie--I'm thinking about a bottle, but That Would Be Wrong.

  1. Don't let your Inner Critic get the best of you. I say get the full bottle!

  2. Don't you get me longing for Cardinal now! I'm still wanting a full-size of Etro Messe de Minuit! BTW-Have you tried that one yet? It's straight-up incense. I guess "churchy" incense.
Today, I'm wearing DSH Perfumes Ashram. That's incense, straight up head shop incense ;)

  3. Nah, that wouldn't be wrong. It would be testament to your extraordinarily good taste. (great justification, I use it all the time;))

  4. Cardinal is gorgeous. Will read with interest to find out if you buy a bottle. Think it's my favourite Heeley.

  5. Say now, I can't imagine jumping from a sample to a full bottle. No, not at all.

    Well, maybe once.

    Or...

Don't you love it when you get a "noseworm"? When somehow, a scent idea plants itself in your head and you must wear it, despite any other intentions? I'm glad this particular incensed noseworm led you to happiness. Have heard a few people speak highly of the Heeley Cardinal recently; will need to find some myself.

No rush, though; I am finding that Coueur de Vetiver Sacre is ultimately an incense, at least as far as I am concerned, and I am enjoying my sample quite a bit. I'm sure a decant will follow.

Not sure about the full bottle. REALLY. :)

  6. Yo, Josephine! Well, now, that's tempting. I do firmly oppose the Inner Critic, but I never though of foiling himherit through purchasing decisions...

  7. Howdy, EauMG! No, not yet... hey, wait. Is it in the latest sample bowl?

    No. Drat. Next round!

  8. Greetings, Olfactoria! Well, that's an interesting justification, too. I like it.

  9. Hey, MPL! Yes, I'm thoroughly impressed with it. After my experience with the damp aquatic Heeley (Um...Ophelia! That's it), I didn't think I liked the line, but I love this.

  11. Wow, must try! I remember loving the smell of burning pencils -- it must have been the cedarwood they were made of. We used to get into such things in grammar school...burning our pencils...

  12. Am I a lone dissenter in detecting a lemon Cif note in the Heeley? I imagine it may be used for scrubbing the flagstones of the nave. There again, it may be a figment of my nasal receptors. The incense part is impressive, though.

  14. Yo, Vanessa! I've never smelled lemon Cif (I had to Google to confirm what it was :)) but I do get a bit of early fruitiness in Cardinal that fades away, oh, maybe an hour in.
