SOTD: Eau D'Italie Paestum Rose (The Decluttering Resumes)

Yet another perfume purchased without a proper sampling cycle, yet another perfume that I'm likely to give away.

I like this one better than most roses mixed with incense or bitter notes, but it just doesn't have a niche. If I want incense, there's Serge Lutens Serge Noire, and if there weren't, I'd buy Comme des Garcons Kyoto. If I want a rose, there was Elizabeth W Rose and Hermessence Rose Ikebana and Rochas Tocade, and now there's Shiseido White Rose and all other roses can just run along.

So Paestum Rose is nice, it's interesting, it's high-quality, and I can't imagine why I'd wear it. I may give it one more try, but I think it's on its way out of the house.

  1. Don't tell all other roses to scarper before you have tried Floris Snow Rose... : - )

  2. Can I suggest you give it away to me? ;)
I do think you should give it another try (or two or three) since I really like it so I think you might realize at some point that there was a good reason you bought it after all.

  3. This is exactly how I felt about Paestum Rose - it was neither fish nor fowl, neither enough rose nor enough incense, and why should I bother with that? Also, it sometimes goes quite sour on me, and I don't enjoy that. I've gone through two samples. No more. It's toast.

  4. I quite liked it when I last tried it, and it's still on my list of "I might buy." I'll have to pull out my sample and try it again. Incense and rose is one of my favourite combinations. But you're right, Hinoki is better incense, or Avignon. Incense is one of those notes that I just can't get enough of.

  5. Yo, flittersniffer! Oh, I remember you mentioning that before, yes? I'm putting it on The List. Or maybe just in the Perfumed Court shopping cart....

  6. Howdy, Ines! Unfortunately, the Postal Phobia remains. :) So you're more than welcome to it, but only if you come to town.

Yeah, I guess I should give it a couple more tries. Or maybe this is one where I could give away decants and keep the remains of the bottle. (Though with those opaque bottles, it's hard to tell how much you're keeping.)

  7. Yo, Mals! Yep; it's just not quite right. I can see how it might work if I want my incense sweetened, but... well, no, even then I want it sweetened with vanilla and resin, not with rose. I just don't quite get it.

  8. Yo, kj! Yeah, if I liked incense more, this might fit - then I'd be eager for all sorts of different incense fragrances and Paestum Rose might have its niche. But Serge Noire is enough for me - plus an occasional craving for Kyoto that's not quite strong enough to make me buy a bottle.
