SOTD: None again. And firming up that resolve.

So, a while ago I discussed the possibility of (gulp) refraining from perfume purchases for six months. After thinking it over for a while, and not buying any perfume, I think that I'm going to do that. (That is, no bottles or decants. Samples? Free-for-all. So the reviews will continue.)

No perfume until August 2.

Gulp.

I'm saying this now because I anticipate being in Barney's this Saturday. And near the Chanel boutique. Where the small bottles of Les Exclusifs might be. So I want to make this resolve all public-like: No perfume purchasing above sample size. None. Zero. Not any. Nope nope nope.

Gulp.

  1. You can do it!
(of course, I'd be planning my "reward" at Barney's and purchasing immediately on Aug. 2nd.) :)

  2. It might be just what you need to get your perfume blogging mojo back!

I decided on January 23 to not buy perfume until April 1st, which might even extend until May 1st (this includes samples, but I already have so many I haven't reviewed).
So, for a few months you will have some company!

  3. Please send some of that resolve my way. I've gone bananas these past two months...

  4. I think as soon as I set rules for myself like that, I'm more tempted than ever by everything. I've found a few things recently that I really want full bottles or at least decants of, and when my samples run out, there will be panic.

  5. I'm with Carrie. I'll be fine until I make a resolution like that, then all I can think about is buying things.
However, I did have a successful no-buy Jan. No sample, nada. So maybe you could start shorter, like 2 months, then 3 months, then 6 months?

  6. Courage, sister! COURAGE!!.... I'm one month away from completing my own online-purchase blackout, which was set at 3 months.... and I am climbing the WALLS. Six months? You are positively Olympian. ;)

  7. Well, if it helps any, I am coming off of a major (over 18 months) poverty induced no-buy, so I can make up for you not supporting the free-enterprise system single handedly, probably.
Except I am crap at blogging and never write anything. I just Twitter abt stuff. Maybe now that I am working only part time (huzzah for part time jobs!!) I should start doing a routine Thursday Perfume Post or something. Hmmmmm!!

  8. I'm a huge fan of the (post euphoric, creativity-inducing) discipline of your choice. Once you've fallen out of crazy love, time to re-evaluate the relationship. There's something about the anticipation, of knowing that the next bottle you buy will have to be...special. Sometimes, it's delicious to have to wait!

  9. Thanks, Jen! Yeah, I do suspect that I'll be buying Cardinal or Cuir de Russie in very early August.

  10. Hey, Joan Elaine! Yep, I'm hoping. And, yay! Company, even temporary company, is a good thing. :)

  11. Howdy, Geordan! Hee. I don't have any resolve to spare; I'm using it all up. :)

  12. Yo, Carrie! See, the thing is that even _samples_ rarely run out in my collection. So the resolve should be easy. But it isn't.

  13. Greetings, EeauMG! I feel that I cheated myself a little bit, not counting the earlier part of January in the resolve. But, well, I've set the date, so there it is.

  14. Olenska! Ooh. Do you predict that I'll altogether lose my mind?

  15. Hey, Mitzy! Yes! Post about your re-entry into consumerism!

  16. LCN! Hiya! Yep, I'm hoping that this will improve my attitude about perfume and the consuming and the blog somehow. If it doesn't, it will at least save some money. :)
