SOTD: Nothing. But wow, that photo.

You may have noticed that most of my images come from Wikimedia Commons. I wandered by there today and was so taken by the Picture Of The Day that I just had to present it here. According to the record, it was taken by "World War II and fashion photographer Toni Frissell, at Weeki Wachee Springs, Florida, 1947." And according to Wikipedia, the photo was used on more than one album cover.

I'm not sure if I find it beautiful, nightmarish, or a combination of the two. But I definitely find it fascinating. To see it at maximum resolution, click the "Image:" link below, and then click on the image.

  4. i love this, both haunting and graceful. i think the haunting part is that she's headless from this perspective.

hey, and what's with all these scentless days?! I rely on my virtual tuberose, jasmine, honey, vanilla, spicy, top note, base note scents of the day.

  5. Hey, everybody! I showed the picture to Himself, trying to figure out why it does seem nightmarish to me, as well as beautiful. He pointed out that it's reminiscent of Danse Macabre, a film that we saw at this year's Ashland Independent Film Festival that does have plenty that qualifies as "nightmarish". There's a lot in Danse Macabre that makes you say, "This could be beautiful, if only..." And this photo has the beautiful, and only reminds me of the "if only."

Sorry, Cynthia. :) I'll be more reliable with the perfume. Except, y'know, for Scentless Saturday.
